Workers' Compensation
Workers' Compensation is Insurance paid for by an employer that provides cash benefits and medical care if you become disabled or injured while on the job.
Note: If you are not required by statute to carry Workers' Compensation insurance, but a general contractor (GC) requires you to have it, the GC is within rights. Generally, the Workers' Compensation statute says that the GC is liable for any injuries to uninsured subcontractors or their uninsured employees. Because of this, the GC's insurer will charge additional premium if you cannot provide proof of coverage, even if you have no employees. If the GC won't hire you unless you have a policy and insure yourself, you will need to buy a policy covering your business or yourself, or work for a GC who does not have this requirement.
